Energy Psychology is
part of family of cutting edge "power therapies".
This model of mind/body psychology, works with a person's energy system
in order to achieve fast, effective and often permanent psycho-emotional
change. It is particularly effective with a wide range of
fears, phobias, stress, anger, grief, traumas and addictions. In
addition, it has been used successfully with every thing
from insomnia, to migraines, depression, obsessive compulsive disorders,
attention deficit disorders, performance enhancement, pain control and
many other problems.
As the Chinese have known for thousands of years, that the body's energy
(which they call Chi) flows along many pathways, known as meridians.
Along these meridians are accupoints that are a little like
circuits or transformers. When these points are blocked or
have "shorts", distress or illness occurs.
Acupuncturists work to heal physical complaints by treating
these blockages. It has only been very recent that psychologists
discovered that emotional complaints can also be treated. In
addition to its roots in Acupuncture, energy psychology also draws
from the Indian healing tradition, Applied Kinesiology, Physical Therapy
and Traditional Psychotherapy.
Practitioners are trained to diagnose where the disturbances
related to the particular problem are in the energy system. They
then assist the client to bring the energy system back into balance.
Psychological and emotional problems quickly improve. They may
have the client tap or rub various accupoints in a certain manner.
While very simple, practitioners and clients alike are amazed at
the speed and power of these approaches.
There are several sets of techniques being used by energy therapists.
Thought Field Therapy (TFT) developed by Roger Callahan is perhaps the
best known. The Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), developed by
Gary
Craig is quite similar to TFT but it is a more generic process
that is more easily taught to clients and non-therapists for their own
use. David and Rebecca Grudemyer have incorporated much information from
many practitioners into something known as Comprehensive Energy
Psychology. I have been trained in and use parts of all of
these approaches in my practice. |
